Easynews Improvements

After having been around since 1995, you wouldn’t think that Easynews would have much room for improvement. But they spent much of last year making improvements to their offerings, and services, and the rumor mill has it that they won’t be giving up any time soon. Their recent addition of Newshosting was a major improvement we are sure all of their customers are enjoying, along with the great prices.

This last year they improved their interface and added features and options that would take several websites to describe. They improved their search engine, now having a “Groups” option, and an “Article” option, with basic and advanced searches for both. When doing an “advanced” search, you will find filters to narrow your search down to exactly what you want. The search is a little slower than others, though, but gives you a more complete search of the indexes.

Over the last year they have worked hard at making the existing features and services better than they already were. Other features include: of binary retention; a nice variety of packages, ranging in price from about $10 to $30; since they have more than one backbone, download speeds are excellent; and finally, your security is one of their top concerns, so they offer only the best available to the industry.

We have discussed their existing features, and improvements that have occurred over the last year, but what about next year? They have plans…many plans. As always, they are striving to stretch their retention even farther than they already go, and always look to improve their customer service, but they are looking to go farther than the usual provider.

• Contextual help on many pages, and more pages are added every day.
• Improved User Favorites sorting to help you find your best sources faster.
• Improved Basic Search results selection and display. This will include more relevant results in every search you make, and will display them in a friendlier manner.
• Improved saved search option, needless to say, this will go with the improved search engine.
• Lightbox image views will be available soon.
• Post date in group indexes.
• Updated profile page layout that looks better and is easier to navigate.

We like Easynews and especially enjoy the fact that they are constantly upgrading their service and admire their ongoing improvments because they really do make Usenet easier to use.
