Overview of recent EasyNews upgrades

Easynews is a Usenet service provider with a relatively long history for Usenet, offering their services since 1995. They offer both traditional and web based Usenet. Their very high Alexa ranking reflects the popularity of Easynews.

History of upgrades

Easynews is also known as the provider which constantly upgrades its services. Take a look on how did this upgrade process flow in the last 365 days:

  • In November 2009, Easyboost was launched. Easyboost a service feature that significantly increased Easynews transfer speeds.  It uses a combination of TCP congestion control algorithms, proprietary software and purpose-build servers to optimize the TCP/IP throughput for transfers.  Testing with the Fast4 method accelerated downloads by an average of 100%. This feature was added at no charge to all customers.
  • Several months later (in April 2010), another great feature was offered: an Unlimited NNTP add-on. For the first time in Easynews history, subscribers were offered an Unlimited NNTP add-on at $9.95/month for the first 1000 new or existing customers.  Furthermore, all Easynews Plus customers were upgraded from 30 gigs/month to 40 gigs/month at no additional cost.
  • During the May 2010, NNTP retention upgraded to 600 days binary, 2 years text Retention upgraded at no added cost to subs, while on the other side, New Easynews website was launched.
  • In June 2010, Unlimited NNTP was added for free to all Big Gig accounts.
  • In October 2010, new interface was launched, binary retention was upgraded to 650 days, while text retention was upgraded to 2 years. Furthermore, the new Easynews interface was launched, which provides easier searches and displays results in a familiar and user-friendly thumbnail gallery-style format to easily preview files before downloading. Additional advanced search options allow users to quickly sort through posts on Easynews’ 100,000+ newsgroups using a variety of criteria, giving users more flexibility and control over their Usenet experience.  Easynews also has an upgraded zip manager that gives users the ability to setup a zip queue for marking files you want to download later.
  • Finally, in November 2010, binary retention was upgraded to 700 days.
